Back again after several weeks away.
I have attended two writing related events in the last two weeks: one at the Auckland Public Library sponsored by the Book Council and one, an evening with my 'Rogues' writing group. Both have inspired me to persevere with my writing.
The first event at the Library was a panel (Gareth Morgan, Tessa Duder, Ian Wedde, Geoff Walker and Juliet Bergh) discussion about how they have juggled the writing alongside working, family and other commitments. It seemed to boil down to - if you have the desire, you'll find/make the time.
Three writers in my writing group epitomise that ability to juggle: Shauna Bickley' e-book, 'Lives Interrupted' is available on Amazon as is Tui Allen's e-book 'Ripple'and Ted Gibbons has finished his manuscript; all three novels were developed during our writing course last year.
They have busy lives and families and jobs and other interests -and they managed to fulfill their desire to write.
What excuse have I for my still unfinished manuscript?
My commitment(I hesitate to call them resolutions): to count all my writing as worthwhile practice and to continue with the novel and short stories I have started. That's part of the problem; starting is easy, it's the keeping at it that is hard.
