Firstly,my thoughts have been very much with Christchurch and its people this last 10 days. The constant television coverage leaves me in no doubt of the devestation, the interviews give me an insight into human courage and determination and the need for hope. My prayers are with you.

One of my many resolutions was to read more widely this year, beyond the crime genre, which I do, on occasion but not as often as I think I should. I read a review of David Levithan's (he of 'Will Grayson, Will Grayson' fame) new book, 'The Lover's Dictionary', and it sounded interesting.
It is. A love story told through dictionary entries; so few words that say so much and a fabulous example of 'show, don't tell'.
For example
p22: autonomy,n
"I want my books to have their own shelves," you said, and that's how I knew it would be okay to live together.
and
p74: dispel,v
"It was the way you said,"I have something to tell you." I could feel the magic drain from the room.
